| Comments: | Clonakilla is the
name of the founder's grandfather's farm in County Clare, Ireland. Dr John
Kirk founded Clonakilla vineyard at Murrumbateman, 40 kilometres north of
Canberra, in 1971 after his scientific curiosity led him to question why
vines were not being grown in this area. His research showed what the soil
and climate seemed suited to certain varieties. Today, Clonakilla is
recognised as one of the leading estates in Australia.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Shiraz O’Riada raises the bar with its complex aromatics of pepper, mineral, scorched earth, spice box, blueberry, and blackberry. On the palate it has greater volume, richer fruit, and a bit more aging potential. Give it 5-7 years and drink it from 2013 to 2026." Rating: 91/100 James Halliday: "A fine and restrained bouquet of red fruit, Asian spices and a touch of mineral complexity; the oak is barely evident and the fruit concentration is undeniable, as on the palate, the wine is long, luscious and finishes with fine tannins and true restraint." Rating:95/100 |
